A Mass of Christian Burial for Marguerite Rose Korkames, 93, of Tyler, is scheduled for 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 25, 2008, at Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception with Monsignor Joseph Strickland, Monsignor Milam Joseph and Father Gus Tharappel officiating. Burial will be at Tyler Memorial Park under direction of Lloyd James Funeral Home, Tyler.

Marguerite Rose Korkames died Friday, June 20, 2008, in Tyler.

She was born Feb. 13, 1915, the youngest daughter of George and Sophia Rose Korkames, in Tyler.

She retired in 1980 as Administrative Assistant from the Medical and Surgical Clinic after 45 years of faithful service. Following her retirement, she worked as administrative assistant for Lloyd James Funeral Home.

In the medical field, she was elected President of the American Association of Medical Assistants of Smith County, conducted several symposiums for the group, served the state as Public Relations Chairman and was also on the State Finance Ways and Means Committee.

She was a 50-year-plus, active member of the Pilot Club of Tyler, having served as President in 1951-1952, during which time, the long-held plan of the Pilot Club was realized and the Cerebral Palsy Treatment Center became a reality. The Center later became known as Vaughn's Memorial Speech and Hearing Center. The work of the Pilot Club saw her serve as Chairman, Program Coordinator and/or member of various committees.

As a member of the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, she served as President of the Altar Society (1984-1986), and was active on the Parish Council, Building Committee, special minister of Communion, Catholic Daughters of America, and Legion of Mary.

She was preceded in death by her father and mother, George and Sophia Rose Korkames; her sisters, Hazel Korkames and Mary Korkmas; brothers, Joseph, Harvey and Louis Korkames.

She is survived by many devoted nieces and nephews, as well as great-nieces and -nephews and their families.

Pallbearers are Paul Korkames, Sammy Korkmas, Kalell Korkmas, Joseph Murad, Stan Morgan, Michael Gavett, Michael St. Clair and Ben Whiteman.

Rosary will be recited 6 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Tyler Catholic School Foundation, P.O. Box 131175, Tyler, 75713; Hospice of East Texas, 4111 University Blvd., Tyler, 75701; or the charity of choice.
