Mary Story was only child of Orange Augustus Story and Frances "Fanny" (nee Parnel) Story. Mary was born in or near Fairfield, De Kalb County, Indiana. After the untimely death of Mary's mother in 1852, Mary's father, Orange Augustus Story re-married in 1854 to Nancy Vandeventer. By the 1870 census, Mary's father, step-mother & half-siblings are living Fremont, Hamilton, Iowa.
