Murphys resident Dean Peterson died Friday, June 13, 2008, at his home in Murphys. He was 83.
A native of San Jose, Mr. Peterson was born June 22, 1924. He was a corporal in the Army Air Force, where he was a radar mechanic and a rifle marksman. He was honorably discharged in Februrary 1946, after receiving a Good Conduct Medal.
Mr. Peterson married the love of his life, Myrt Wetzel, on Sept. 9, 1945, and went on to work as a layout mechanist for Westinghouse, where he was employed for 26 years. The couple moved to Murphys in 1990 and fell in love with Calaveras County.
Mr. Peterson's passions included his family, cars and leatherworking, and he could always be found tinkering around with his tools.
He is survived by his loving wife, Myrt; children Linda Spencer, Patricia Meagher, Susan Aguilar, William Peterson and Jeanie Hannibal; brother Jim Peterson; 15 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
Services will be private. In lieu of flowers, please feel free to make a donation to the charity that Mr. Peterson was a part of, the Disabled American Veterans.
