Alice Allen Buehler, 103, San Antonio, died Monday, June 16, 2008. She was born on July 6, 1904, in the Zion community of rural Lawrence County, southwest of Mount Vernon, MO, to William Lewis and Nancy Ann (Hillhouse) Allen. She was the last of her nine siblings. Her family included six brothers, Frank, Ira, Thomas, baby son, James and David; and two sisters, Nola and Mary.

She completed her education at Spanish Fort, in Lawrence County, MO, and Barry County Normal Training School. Later in life, she took organ training at Kansas Wesleyan University, in Salina, KS.

Mrs. Buehler came from a musical family. At the age of 16, she began playing a pump organ at the Zion church in Mount Vernon, MO. She taught piano for 45 years and influenced countless musicians and students.

She also was the adult and girls choir director at First United Brethren Church in Salina and organist at The First Evangelical Church and First Church of Christ Scientist. She served as secretary and treasurer for many years for the American Guild of Organists in Salina.

She and her husband owned and operated the Buehler Electric Pump Service. She served as secretary and bookkeeper.

She enjoyed needlework, crocheting, knitting and needlepoint. She was an excellent seamstress and, in her declining years, she enjoyed working on jigsaw puzzles.

After spending 67 years living in Salina, she moved to San Antonio to be close to her daughter and granddaughter, Teresa and family. She gave her last piano lesson at 91 to her first grandson.

A highlight in her life was her 100th birthday party held in the family life center at Oxford UMC with over 100 guests, including family from Iowa.

Mrs. Buehler was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband of 51 years, Roy C. Buehler.

She is survived by her daughter, Lorene M. Carper and husband Reverend Donald Carper, of San Antonio; two granddaughters, Teresa and husband Mario Espino and Cynthia and husband Jim Maronick, of Lakewood, CO; great-grandchildren, Mario Allen and Nicolas Espino, and Erin and Sarah Maronick; many nieces and nephews; and friends who loved her and will miss her.

The family is grateful for the care she received at Patriot Heights Skilled Nursing Home in San Antonio.

Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 28, 2008, at The Church of the Cross United Methodist Church, 1600 Rush, Cloud and Broadway, Salina, KS 67401.

The service of interment will be a private family service at 3 p.m. in Roselawn Memorial Park Cemetery, 1920 East Crawford Road, Salina, KS 67401.
