Sept. 14, 2006 - June 24, 2008

Madelyn "Maddie" Marie Gates, 21 months, passed away Tuesday, June 24, 2008, at St. Vincent Mercy Hospital, Elwood. She was born Sept. 14, 2006, in Indianapolis, the daughter of Scott Douglas and Arika Eileen (Brophy) Gates.

She was born with a brain malformation known as Holoprosencephaly (HPE). Madelyn loved attention. She was a true "people person." She gave love in return by her many smiles, her squeals of joy and her excited reactions. She inspired others to give of themselves and to never take life for granted.

Madelyn was dedicated at Macedonia Christian Church near Kokomo.

In addition to her parents, she is survived by her twin brother, James Douglas Gates, Elwood; grandparents, Jerry and Leann Gates, Kokomo, Rex and Terri Shepherd, Tipton, and Carl and Ginger Brophy, Plainfield; and uncles, Todd (Sarah) Gates, Kokomo, J.R. Brophy, Elwood, and Nathan Epperson, Tipton.

Funeral services are 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Hartley Funeral Homes, Cicero Chapel. Pastor Michael Greenwood will officiate. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Tipton. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday and from 9 a.m. until the time of service Saturday.
