Pension Certificate 6034, from the U.S. Pension Office (Unity Maine Notes by Harry Hollingsworth and James B Vickery compiled by Jaqueline Bradeen and Beverly Winship 2013)
COMMONWEALTH OF MASSACHUSETTS—I, Ichabod
Hunt, aged sixty-two years, born in Falmouth in the District of Maine, a citizen of the United
States, now a resident in Unity in said District, upon oath testify and declare, that in May 1775, I
enlisted as a private soldier into the Continental Service of the United States for eight months.
Captain Hart Williams was my captain and Edmund Phinny of the Massachusetts Troops, my
colonel. Under this enlistment I served until January 7, 1776, when I again enlisted as a private
soldier into the same company and regiment for the term of one year against the common enemy.
This last period, I fully served out, and took my honorable discharge from the army at Fort
George in New York on the first of January 1777. This discharge I have since lost. I again
enlisted as a private soldier into the Continental Service of the United States against the common
enemy for the term of three years on the first of February 1777 into the company commandeered
by Captain Josiah Jenkins, and regiment commandeered by Colonel Brewer of the Massachusetts
Line. This period I fully served out and took my honorable discharge at Fishkill, New York in
February 1789, which was signed by Captain James Means, Captain Commandant. My discharge
I have since lost. I was in both the Battle at the Taking of Burgoyne, at the Battle on Monmouth,
and at the Storming of Stoney Point under General Wayne, and I wintered one winter at Valley
Forge. I am indigent, and in need of the bounty of the government. And, I do hereby relinquish
all my claim to every pension hereto fore allowed me by the laws of the United States, if any, but
I am not to my knowledge, born on any pension list whatever. I request that I may be put onto the
pension list for the District of Maine. Ichabod Hunt, Unity, Maine April 3, 1818.
