Daughter of William Loyal Horton and Jane Lyons Horton. Her father died when she was just 1 yr old; her grandfather, Hiram Hanmer Horton, Jr became her guardian. He died when she was 12 yrs old. William Almon Wheeler, a lawyer and New York politician, then became her guardian. He was elected vice-president in 1876 under Rutherford B. Hayes when Anna was 16.
Anna first husband, Eugene A Pratt, whom she married 04 Oct 1887, died 09 Jun 1889. She married George Warner Sherwood on 25 Nov 1891. Anna and George left New York and moved to California then; their first child was born in Riverside, just nine months later. She was mother to Arthur Horton, Lawrence Wead, Madeline, Lyman Daniel, and George Warner.
