Olivia 'OJ' M. Verhulst, (nee Kaltenbrun), formerly Janke, and Ninmer, of Shawano and West Bend, WI, died at Cedar Community Friday, June 27th, 2008.
Olivia was born on June 3, 1916 in St. Nazianz in Manitowoc County to the late Anton and Mary (nee Stahl) Kaltenbrun and was baptized at St. Gregory's Catholic Church in St. Nazianz.
She attended St. Gregory's Catholic School.
On October 5, 1932, Olivia married Norman Ninmer in Kiel, WI. Norman and Olivia had one daughter, Joyce. After Norman passed away in 1938, Olivia and Joyce lived in Kiel and Random Lake.
While working in Random Lake as a waitress, Olivia met Herbert Janke of Batavia and wed on June 15th, 1946 at St. Stephen's Lutheran Church. Herbie and Olivia had twin daughters, Mary Lee and Marcie Lyn, and later a son, Kerry. The couple enjoyed more than 27 years of marriage before Herbie passed away in 1973.
In addition to working for Tecumseh Products in Grafton for 15 years, she tended to the Janke homestead for over 30 years and cared for her mother-in-law, Selma until 1976. After retiring and moving from Batavia in 1979, Olivia lived for a short time in Random Lake before moving to Shawano Lake where she enjoyed gardening, traveling, golfing, and entertaining family and friends. While vacationing with friends in Florida, she met Gordon Verhulst of Sheboygan. They were married in Bradenton, FL on April 14, 1981. They loved dancing and traveling. After Gordy passed away later that same year, Olivia continued spending summers at her home at Shawano Lake and winters in Bradenton.
She loved drives through the countryside, taking pleasure in nature. Olivia eventually moved into the city of Shawano and lived there until 2005 when she moved to West Bend with Marcie.
Olivia is survived by her daughters, Joyce Jung, Marcie Scholz, and Mary Lee Maki (friend, Keith Daniel); 3 grandchildren;5 great-grandchildren; siblings, Frieda Voeks of Shawano, Helen Ferk and Leo Kaltenbrun of Sheboygan.
In addition to her parents, Olivia was preceded in death by husbands, Norman, Herbert, and Gordon; son, Kerry; an infant twin sister; sisters, Viola Johnson, Gert Cavegnetto, Angie Gavronski; and brothers, Art, Eddie, and Fritz Kaltenbrun; son-in-law, Hugo Jung; three sisters-in-law and four brothers-in-law.
Through the years, she's been known to many people as Mom, Olivia, Ollie, Olive, OJ, and even Nana and Nan. She will forever be in our hearts and always remembered for her delicate love of life and finding beauty in perfection. 'To live in hearts we leave behind, is not to die!'
Interment will take place at St. Stephen's Cemetery of Batavia.
