Mabel M. Sponsel, 79, of Girard, Kansas, died at 2:10 P.M., Monday, June 23, 2008 in the Girard Medical Center.
She was born June 27, 1928 in Hepler, Kansas, a daughter of Mannie and Daisy (Harper) Zimmerman.
She grew up and attended schools in Crawford County.
She married Chris J. Sponsel, Sr. on April 5, 1945 at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Girard, Kansas. He preceded her in death on January 24, 1969.
She was a homemaker and she enjoyed her family and faith.
She was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church in Girard.
Survivors are a son, Chris J. Sponsel, Jr. and wife, Connie, of Girard, KS; daughters Virginia L. Wise and husband, Bob, of Cedar City, UT, and Diane M. Hanson and husband, Jerry, of Girard, KS; eight grandchildren; and fifteen great-grandchildren; sisters Virginia Roshay of Girard, KS, and Margaret Ordonez of Lyndon, KS.
She was preceded in death by a son, Jerry D. Sponsel, in 1981; a granddaughter, Jennifer Sponsel; a brother, Merle Zimmerman; and a sister, Mary Bowin.
Memorial Mass will be at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Girard, Kansas, with Fr. Donald R. Thissen as celebrant. Burial will be in the Girard Cemetery.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Smith-Carson-Wall Funeral Home in Girard.
