Helen Jean Saulsbury was born May 7, 1921, the daughter of William and Mabel (Weeding) Guse in Big Stone County.
Helen was baptized and confirmed November 7, 1945 at Grace Lutheran Church in Correll. She grew up and attended grade school in rural Big Stone County.
Helen was united in marriage to Herbert Saulsbury Dec. 14, 1938, in Milbank, South Dakota. Together Helen and Herb were able to share in 60 years of marriage.
Helen and Herb made their home in the Clinton and Ortonville area where they farmed near Clinton. They moved to Benson in 1954, where Helen worked for the Meadow Lane Healthcare Center for 32 years.
Helen was a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church, where she was active in Ladies Aid.
Among the things she enjoyed were baking, playing cards, and dancing.
Helen is survived by three daughters, Darlene (Charles) Wilts of Benson, Sharon (Leroy) Sanders of Benson, Lyn Saulsbury of Willmar; one son Harlan (Sue) Saulsbury of Murdock; one son-in-law Kenneth Schmidtke of Montevideo; 13 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; seven step great grandchildren; two step great great grandchildren; one brother Bud (Dorothy) Guse of Wyoming.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her daughter Faye Schmidtke; two grandsons, Kenneth Schmidtke Jr. and Joshua Skare; four brothers and four sisters.
