R.C. Jones

Funeral services for R.C. Jones who died Sunday, Dec. 13, was held at the Wilmot Christian church Wednesday at 2 o'clock. Long before the appointed hour the church was filled with neighbors and friends who came to pay their respects to an esteemed citizen who had endured the hardships incident to the frontier life having come to Kansas in 1877 and who had for nearly 46 years been a resident and taken active part in the building of Wilmot community.

At the time of his death Mr. Jones was 82 years, 9 months and 6 days old. On Jan. 22, 1871 he was united in marriage to Miss Billie A. Holt at Arlington, Ill. To this union 11 children was born, 6 dying in infancy. Mrs. Jones died several years ago. A daughter, Mrs. Rosa A. Nicely with whom he made his home died about 6 years ago. He is survived by one son, John Jones of Atlanta and three daughters, Mrs. Frank Groom and Mrs. William Cloud of Wilmot and Mrs. Isaac Yarbrough of Vernon, Texas, thirteen grandchildren besides a host of friends. Rev. Atkins of the First Christian church of Winfield officiated at the funeral services quoting the 23rd Psalm and verse insight regarding the phases of death and that of eternal life from the teachings of Christ. A quartet consisting of Mr. John Dickens, Miss Ada Hart, Mrs. John Land and Mrs. Jake Fife of Floral sang "The City Four Square" "In The Garden" and "Abide With Me." A favorite song of Mr. Jones, "I Need Thee Every Hour" was sung by John Dickens. Mrs. Forest Rogers of Floral presided at the piano.

Honorary pallbearers were: L.H. and William Copeland, William Daggett, William Case, H.P. Smith, E.F. Biliter, Walter Lewis and Josie Calvin.

Active pallbearers were grandsons and were: Gilmer and Wilbur Groom, Blake Cochran, Oran and Clark Jones and Kenneth Yarbrough. Burial was made in the Wilmot cemetery.
