Co-founder of the Buffum's department store chain with his brother E.E. Buffum. Mayor of Long Beach from 1921 to 1924.
He's also the father of Dorothy Buffum Chandler. The Chandler family founded The Los Angeles Times newspaper. The Dorothy Chandler Pavilion at the Los Angeles Music Center was also named for her because of all her philanthropic help.
