Funeral for retired Master Sgt. Richard L. McCormick, 61, Lawton, will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Frontier Chapel, Fort Sill, with Chaplain Lt. Col. William T. Barbee officiating.

Master Sgt. McCormick died Saturday, June 28, 2008, at Fort Sill.

Burial will be at Fort Sill National Cemetery, Elgin, under direction of Lawton Ritter Gray Funeral Home.

He was born Nov. 19, 1946, in Enid, to George and Wilma Rine McCormick. He grew up in Enid and graduated from Enid High School in 1965. He then served in many United States and United States Air Force assignments on active duty as well as inactive duty and mobilized reserves. Duty locations and positions ranged from recruiting and retention to operational assignments in the United States, Asia, and Europe. He retired from the Battle Command Training Group, 1st Bde, 75th Division, at Fort Sill, after he completed more than 20 years of active duty. Prior to that, he was the operations NCOIC for the 2nd Battalion, 335th FA, 1st Bde, 95th Division, in Wichita Falls, Texas. He received numerous medals and awards, including the army commendation medal (4th award), Army Achievement Medal (3rd award), Army Lapel Button, Army Good Conduct Medal (5th award), Army Reserve Components Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal, with bronze star (2nd) award, Noncommissioned Officer's Professional Development Ribbon with numeral 3, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, Armed Forces Reserve Medal with M device, Bronze Excellence in Competition Badge, Rifleman/Expert Marksmanship Qualification Badge with Rifle Bar, Expert Marksmanship Badge with Pistol Bar, Driver and Mechanic Badge with Driver A Bar, US Army Recruiter Badge with 1 sapphire achievement star, Career Counselor Badge, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal. He retired on Nov. 18, 2006. He then worked for civil service at Fort Sill, with HHB 95th AG BN (Reception) in processing and recruits. He married Dalene Wilmarth on Aug. 24, 1979 in California. He was a member of the Harley Owner's Group.

Survivors include his wife, of the home; his parents, of Enid; a son, Jason McCormick, Oklahoma City; two daughters and a son-in-law, Christina McCormick and her fiancee, Rory Farley, Moore; and Kimberly and J.B. Campbell, Plano, Texas; a brother and sister-in-law, Monte C. and Anita McCormick, Enid; a sister and brother-in-law, Lynn Raenelle and Larry Vancoevering, Yukon; his mother and father-in-law, Dorothy and Dale Wilmarth, Palmdale, Calif.; a brother-in-law and his wife, Dale Jr. and Fawn Wilmarth, Canoga Park, Calif.; and a sister-in-law and her husband, Linda and Mickey Clyde, Sylmar, Calif.
