George was born Sept. 15, 1948, in LaSalle, Ill.
His father, George L. Hunter, preceded him in death on Nov. 5, 1972. His mother, Florene E. (Malone) Hunter, also preceded him in death on Jan. 31, 1988. One brother, Lawrence Hunter, died at birth on June 6, 1935.
He is survived by three sons, George M. Hunter (Brenda), Mark D. Hunter and Brian K. Hunter (Jennifer), all of LaSalle, Ill. He also is survived by three grandchildren, Emily, Daniel and Elizibeth (George) Hunter, who also live in LaSalle.
George grew up in Oglesby, Ill., and graduated from LaSalle-Peru High School. He received an associate degree from Illinois Valley Community College and a bachelor's degree from SIU in Carbondale in 1970.
George served in the U.S. Army Reserves and worked for the Illinois Department of Transportation.
He then worked for more than 30 years as a lab technician for Caterpillar in Peoria before retiring in 2007.
George was laid to rest on June 11, 2008, next to his parents in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens in LaSalle.
