Michael J Buendo, Jr, died on October 8, 1971 in Cornish from injuries in an auto accident. He was born in Claremont, NH, on March 11, 1956, the son of Michael J Sr and Jeannine (Quesnel) Buendo.

He is survived by his parents, sisters Star Lea, Lisa Gay, and Jeannine Marie; a maternal grandmother, Mrs. Florestine Theroux; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.

The Stevens High School yearbook staff prepared and inserted a Memoriam page for David Richardson, Michael Buendo, and Gary Dumontier in the 1972 SHS yearbook. It was a poem by Tennyson:

I hold it true, whate'er befall,
I feel it; when I sorrow must,
'Tis better to have loved and lost,
Than never to have loved at all.

That nothing walks with aimless feet;
That not one life shall be destroyed,
Or cast as rubbish to the void,
When God hath made the pile complete;

So runs my dream, but what am I?
An infant crying in the night;
An infant crying for the light,
And with no language but a cry.

Ring out the grief that saps the mind,
For those that here we see no more;
Ring out the feud of rich and poor,
Ring in redress to all mankind.

Far off thou art, but ever nigh;
I have thee still, and I rejoice,
I prosper, circled with thy voice;
I shall not lose thee though I die.

From the October 10, 1971 Claremont, NH Daily Eagle:

TWO CLAREMONT TEENAGERS KILLED INSTANTLY AS CAR SLAMS INTO BIG TREE IN CORNISH

CORNISH--Two Claremont teenagers were killed instantly late Friday night when the car in which they were passengers slammed in a 20-inch thick pine tree on Platt Road. Pronounced dead at the scene by Dr. James Skillen, Sullivan County Medical referee, were Michael Buendo, 15, 34 Broad Street and David Richardson, 16, 59 River St. The operator of the car was Elliott Davis, 19, 10 Dexter St, Claremont. He received multiple abrasions to the body and was checked into the Claremont Hospital and released. The car, a 1968 Dodge station wagon was registered to Buendo's mother, Mrs. Jeannine Buendo. Buendo was a sophomore at Stevens High School while Richardson was a junior at the same school and was employed at the Big L Discount Store. According to the State Police, the car was being driven in a southerly direction on Platt Road about a mile from Rout 12A. The crash occurred on a downhill grade on a sight left curve. The car went off the right side of the road just south of the drive leading to the James Farley residence. The tree was about five feet off the road. The vehicle hit the tree at the rear of the right front fender and caved in the side of the car. After hitting the tree, the car spun partially around and went down a banking. State police said Davis walked down to 12A and hailed a passing motorist who took him to the Windsor Police Station, Windsor, VT. Windsor officials contacted Claremont police who relayed the call to State police.
