Capt. Lloyd James Cannon, Jr. of Randolph Air Force Base in Texas died Oct. 29, 1964. A native of Canton, he was a son of the late Lloyd James and Mary Fields Cannon. He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1948. He leaves behind his wife, Doris Rollins Cannon; one son, L.J. Cannon III and two daughters, Leslie and Lois Cannon; one brother, Tommy F. Cannon of Raleigh, NC, and three sisters, Mary Louise Cowart of Canton, Doris Hughes of Montreal, Canada, and Sarah Harwell of Barnardsville.

Military graveside services were held Monday at 2:30pm in Canton's Bon-A-Venture Cemetery. A contingent from Shaw Air Force Base in S.C. served as honor guard. A Memorial service was held in Bethel Presbyterian Church with the Rev. H. Edwin Young and the Rev. Riley Covin officiating.

Thirty-two of Capt. Cannon's fellow officers, several enlisted men and the commanding officer of Randolph Field flew in for the services.
