Funeral for retired 1st Sgt. Jose Miguel Laboy-Martinez, 59, Lawton, will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Lawton Ritter Gray Funeral Home Chapel with Chaplain Maj. David Harsdorf, 1st of the 30th Field Artillery, officiating.

Mr. Laboy-Martinez died Monday, June 30, 2008, at Fort Sill.

Burial with military honors will be at Fort Sill National Cemetery, Elgin.

He was born Dec. 22, 1948, in Barrio Pasto Viejo, Humacao, Puerto Rico, to Francisco Laboy and Luz Easter Martinez. He grew up in Puerto Rico and graduated from high school there. He joined the U.S. Army in October 1969 in San Juan, Puerto Rico. He served as a first sergeant, and his last assignment was with the HHC 3rd of the 64th AR. He married Kim Kwang Ok on May 19, 1970, in Korea. They lived in many places during his military career including Korea, Germany, Europe, and Fort Sill. He received many awards and medals including Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal 2nd Oak Leaf Cluster, Army Achievement Medal, Good Conduct Medal (8th Award), National Defense Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, NCO Professional Development Ribbon, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, and Expert Marksmanship Badge/Rifle, M-14 (Expert Qualification Badge) Pistol .45. They returned to the Lawton-Fort Sill area, and he retired Sept. 30, 1992. They then owned and operated La Borinquena Food Store from 1994 until the present.

Survivors include his wife, of the home; his mother, Puerto Rico; a son and daughter-in-law, Jose Luis and Amanda Laboy, Lawton; two daughters and a son-in-law: Blanca and George Camacho, and Dalia Walters, all of Lawton; two sisters: Dalia Laboy, Puerto Rico; and Fini Laboy, New York; five grandchildren: Jose Miguel Laboy, Sameem Sarwari, Kimberly Walters, Trae Walters, and Seth Walters, all of Lawton; and many nieces and nephews including Yolanda, Ludi, Cheo, Aracelis, and Richie.

He was preceded in death by his father; and a nephew, Tito Morales.
