Martha Ellen Williams
January 30, 1934:

Mrs. Martha Ellen Williams, 84 years old, a native and life long resident of Callaway County, Missouri died at 10:00 o'clock Tuesday morning at her home at 1117 Ewing Avenue in north Fulton, Missouri. She had been in failing health for over a year and had been seriously ill for a week.

A funeral service will be conducted at 3:30 o'clock Wednesday afternoon at the First Baptist Church in Fulton by the Reverand R.S. Keith of this city. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery.

Mrs. Williams was a daughter of Albert Henry and Sithi (Dawson) Fisher, pioneer residents of the Kingdom who moved here from Clark County, Kentucky and settled in Calwood and Nine Mile Prairie in the early 1800's.

She was born October 6, 1848 on a farm east of Fulton and lived all her life in the Calwood Area and in Fulton, with the exception of five years in Jefferson City.

She was married to Thomas Benton Williams, who passed away on March 9, 1925 at the age of 76 years.

Five of the family of ten children survive. They are: Mrs. Mary Elizabeth (Dollie) Lovelace of Chicago, Illinois, Mrs. Henrietta Faye Goodman of Fulton, Missouri, Joseph Thomas Williams of Fulton, Missouri, John W. Williams of Fulton, Missouri and Vollie Williams of Kansas City, Missouri. She also leaves a large number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was the last member of her immediate family of five, Two sisters, Amanda (Fisher) Bittner, Mary Fisher and two brothers, George Fisher and Charles Henry Fisher, Martha's twin.

She was preceded in death by her parents. (Her father was killed out west when he went to pan for gold); her husband, Thomas Benton Williams; children, William Richard (Dick) Williams, Cora Bell (Williams) Larimore, Dora Lee (Williams) Thomas, Charles "Charley" Williams, Dollie (Williams) Metzger and Clara (Williams) Brewer.

Martha Ellen and her husband were charter members of New Hope Baptist Church in Calwood and was active in building and starting the Church. Mrs. Williams united with the Baptist Church of Fulton many years ago after her move to Fulton and continued her membership throughout the remainder of her life, taking a great interest in church work as her health permitted. She was a woman who numbered her friends over aquaintances and her passing brings sincere sympathy to members of the bereaved family.

Father was Albert Fisher who went West during the Gold Rush and never returned.
