Barbara M. Bieker, 97, Hays Good Samaritan Center, a former Ellis resident, died Saturday, March 23, 2002 at the center. She was born July 11, 1904 in Walker to Nickolas and Maria (Braun) Riedel.

She married Joseph A. Bieker on Nov. 24, 1921 in Ellis. He died Sept. 17, 1973.

She had lived in the Ellis area most of her life, moving to Hays in 1969. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include a son, Donald of Scranton; four daughters, Mary Goetz of Salina, Viola Billinger and Lillian Bieker, both of Hays, Marlaine Gottschalk of Schoenchen; two brothers, Leo Riedel of Forest Grove, Ore., and Lawrence Riedel of Ellis; two sisters, Marge Bowman and Georgine Loop, both of Salina; 36 grandchildren; 61 great- grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two sons, Alvin Francis and Robert F.; and two daughters, Jo Ann Stieben and Eileen Arnhold.

Services will be at 10 a.m. today, St. Mary's Catholic Church, Ellis, with Father Kevin Weber officiating; burial in the church cemetery. Visitation will be until 8 p.m. today and from 9 to 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at Wasinger Funeral Home, Ellis. A rosary will be at 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.
