LAKE BUTLER - BETTY ALFORD GIDEON, 84, of Lake Butler died Saturday, Dec. 14, 2002, at Memorial Hospital in Jacksonville following an extended illness.

Born in Sanderson, Mrs. Gideon lived in Texas before moving to Lake Butler in 1987. She was a retired dancer and attended Johnstown Baptist Church in Lake Butler.

Mrs. Gideon is survived by: a son Buford D. Gideon of Oklahoma; a step-daughter Evelyn Sowell of Lockesburg, Ark.; four sisters, Barbara A. Modisette of Jacksonville, Frances A. Smith of Lake Butler, Lois McLeod and Elsie Mattson, both of Tampa; two brothers, Clyde W. Alford and Carl C. Alford, both of Jacksonville; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband Horace B. "Pinky" Gideon in March of 2002.

Graveside services for Mrs. Gideon were Dec. 17, 2002 at Mt. Zion Cemetery in Lake Butler with Brother Roger Worten officiating. Archer Funeral Home of Lake Butler was in charge of arrangements.
