LOUIS BAKER, 111,
DIES IN REST HOME
Louis N. Baker, Guthrie pioneer and one of Oklahoma's oldest residents, died Thursday night at a local rest home at the age of 111 years.
Baker who told family members and friends of being in the Civil War, received national publicity a few months ago, as possibly being the last surviving Union army soldier of the Civil War.
An extensive check, however failed to definately prove or disprove this point and Baker was too feebled to talk.
Born in Le Tours, France, he came to Logan County from Kansas in 1889. He was a retired farmer and member of the Modern Woodman Owl Lodge and A-TA Lodge.
Funeral services will be held Monday at 2:30 pm at the First Christian Church with Rev. J. Wilfred Walker officiating.
Burial will be in Summit View Cemetery under the direction of Smith Funeral Home. Six grandsons will act as pallbearers.
He is survived by five daughters: Mrs. Clemmie Van Orden of Guthrie, Mrs. Ida Mae Miles and Mrs. Clara Yeager of Oklahoma City, Mrs. Emma Freeman and Mrs. Josie Barker, both of Coyle; two sons, Allie Baker and Fletcher Baker, both of Oklahoma City, 30 grandchildren, 38 great grandchildren, and six great, great grandchildren, and one sister Mrs. Jane Fuller of New Canton, Illinois.
