His full name was Augustus Caesar Layton and he was the son of Davis and Charlotte (Burkhart) Layton, Oregon Pioneers who arrived in the Albany, Oregon Territory in October, 1847, with his extended family - his paternal uncle, John and his aunt Rebecca Layton, his grandparents, John and Rebecca Ann (Baltzell) Burkhart, as well as many maternal aunts, uncles and cousins. Following Augustus's mother's death, his father remarried and had two more children, but both died within a few years of their births and his father passed soon after, in 1862. A.C. Layton married Elizabeth Engle and they were blessed with six children. They were: Carrie Layton, b. 1874

Augustus Caesar Layton died on Jan 1, 1884 and is buried at Riverside Cemetery in Albany, near his parents. May they all Rest, at Peace.
