Was killed in action 11-22-1864 while serving as Captain of Company E of the 11th Georgia State Militia.
The battle of Griswoldville was the only major armed resistance Sherman met on his " March to the Sea" from Atlanta to Savannah.
On the day Captain Farwell fell, one of his older brothers, the Hon. Nathan Farwell, was serving in the U.S. Senate from the state of Maine.
