She graduated from Shawnee Heights High School in 1991. She then attended Allen County Community College.
She married Joel Nelson, they later divorced.
Caressa enjoyed working with children with special needs. She especially enjoyed her family and Harley rides.
She is survived by her paternal grandmother, Dorothy Smith of Topeka; a maternal grandmother, Evelyn M. Hope of Topeka; her mother, Jima Hope of Gainesville, Florida; her step father, Richard Morrissey of Berryton, KS; a companion, Tom Dale of Topeka; three sons, Lee Nelson, Nick Nelson and Zack Nelson, all of Topeka; two brothers, Jason Morrissey of Topeka and Bill Smith of Carbondale and four sisters, Laura VanDonge of Topeka, Jennifer Day of Burbank, CA, Marissa Smith of Carbondale and Janie Smith of Carbondale.
