On 22 Feb 1867, Isaac accidentally fell into a tub of boiling water intended for laundry. His parents were in the process of moving from Havelock, Ontario, to Switzerville, Ontario, and the tub had been placed over an outside fire. There was no doctor in that area and being winter, it took them nearly two days by sleigh to reach medical aid. Isaac died a few hours after they were finally able to get him to a doctor.
