Gale was my 2nd cousin.

His obituary from the August 22, 2005 News-Gazette (Champaign-Urbana):

MAHOMET — Funeral services for Gale Jay, 65, of Mahomet will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Blair Owens Funeral Home, 102 E. Dunbar, Mahomet. Burial will be in Grandview Memorial Gardens, Champaign.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Mr. Jay died at 6 p.m. Saturday (August 20, 2005) at the Greenbriar Nursing Home, Piper City.

He was born December 21, 1939, in Urbana, a son of John and Grace Scales Jay. He married Bonnie Sapp on March 7, 1958, in Champaign. She died November 11, 1989.

Survivors include his mother, of Urbana; a son, Joe Jay of Joliet; two daughters, Gaila Roberts of Bement and Penny Rhoades of Chenoa; six grandchildren; two brothers, John Jay of Mahomet and Ralph Jay of Champaign; and three sisters, Beth Barnes of Paxton, Ann Rollins of Clinton and Ruth Wilson of Homer.

Mr. Jay was a former manager of the Corn Belt Fire Protection District.

Before he retired, he worked as a supervisor in the shipping department at A.C. Humko, Champaign.
