Oregon Pioneer of 1847 via the "Southern Route" of the Oregon Trail, led by Albert Franklin Davidson.
Her father was the Reverend Carter Tarrant Page, a minister. Melissa Ann Page, named after her mother and also known as "Lucy Ann", married Hezekiah Davidson in Glasgow, Barren Co., Kentucky, on Sep 27, 1821. Their marriage license was purchased Sep 25th, 1821 and the ceremony was held on Sep 27th, 1821. Per Kentucky Marriages, 1785-1979. Melissa and Hezekiah were blessed with ten children. The children had all been born before the family left Illinois in February 1847 with the John Burkhart family to emigrate to Oregon. They arrived in Oct., 1847 and the Burkharts settled in what would later become Albany, Linn County, in the Oregon Territory. The Davidsons chose to live in what was later to become Buena Vista, in Polk County, in the Oregon Territory until it became a state in 1859. Their children were as follows:
Johnathan Ellis, b.1823, became a Doctor after arriving in Oregon, d.c 1890 in Independence, Polk Co., Oregon
James Orville, b.1825, m.Mary Elizabeth Linville in OR.
Eliza(beth), b.1827, m.Benjamin Franklin Burch in Oregon
Lauretta, b.1822, m.David Johnston in Oregon
Hezekiah Davidson Jr, b.1830, married Ellen Haslet in Oregon,
Mary Elizabeth, b.1833, m.Rev.Hugh McNary Waller
John Peter, b.1834, a twin, m.Mary, possibly stayed in Ill., although other records say he died in Oregon in 1847.
Jonathan E., b.1834, a twin,
Melissa Ann, b.1835, m.Leander Columbus Burkhart in Oregon
and Tarrant, [b.unk., probably died in childhood]

She and her husband were in their 40's and 50's when they arrived in Oregon. Hezekiah had been born in 1789 and Melissa had been born in 1804. They filed for a donation land claim and successfully farmed and improved the land in the lovely Buena Vista area in what is now Polk County with the help of the younger Jonathan E (b.1834). The children tried to help out, but their parents finally had to retire as they reached their 70's. They went to live with their son Jonathan in @1870, in Monmouth. Hezekiah passed from this life at the age of 87 just a few weeks after his birthday on February 25th, 1876. He was buried at Buena Vista Cemetery. Melissa grieved the loss of the only man she had ever loved and she passed away on May 5th, 1877, just a little over a year later, at the age of 72. She is buried near her loving husband at Buena Vista Cemetery, Buena Vista, Polk County, Oregon, with James Orville, his wife, Mary Elizabeth, and four of their children.
Melissa and Hezekiah Davidson are my great, great, great, grandparents. May they Rest In Peace.
