Shirley Jean Orey, 84, of Silvis, died Wednesday, July 9, 2008, at the home of her son.
Family will be gathering from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, July 12, 2008, at Schroder Mortuary in Silvis, where a memorial service will be at 4 p.m. Memorials may be made to Beacon of Hope Hospice. Burial is at 11 a.m. Monday, July 14, 2008, at Roselawn Cemetery in Springfield.
She was born June 15, 1924, in Springfield, to Floyd and Gladys Edwards Sallee. She married Bernard K. Orey on Feb. 1, 1946, in Hernando, Miss.
Her family and her cat were her life. She enjoyed listening to Ray Price and loved growing food in her garden and doing crafts.
Survivors include her daughter, Shelley Rae (David) Sandholm of Moline; sons, Mark Wayne (Sherry) Orey of Silvis and Jerry Lee (Deborah) Orey of Port Byron; sister, Patricia Nell of Indiana; brother, Professor Floyd Sallee M.D., Ph.D., of Ohio; grandchildren, Robert Cravens, Chad Sandholm, Jason Sandholm, Jennifer (Andrew) Majetic and Jeremy (Amber) Orey.
She was preceded in death by a son, George Bernard Orey; and brothers, Ronald and Kenneth Sallee.
