Edwin Irvin Anderson, 80, passed away Monday, February 14, 2000, in a Pocatello hospital. Edwin was born May 9, 1919, to Jens Martinus and Caroline Marie Hansen Anderson in Alexander, Idaho. He was the sixth child with two sisters and three brothers. He went to school in Central Elementary, Grace High School and Lava High School. Later he attended Idaho State University and the North Dakota State School of Science.
Edwin married Freda Welker on September 10, 1940; later he married Rose Higgins Roberts on January 31, 1983 and then Emily Aleene on March 14, 1998.
He was in the Navy from 1943-1945 as a radio and electric technician. He worked for the railroad, and then went to work as a postal clerk and window clerk until 1979, when he retired.
He was a member of the Lions Club in Lava Hot Springs, ID and also the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was baptized Aug 6, 1927, and sealed to Freda Welker November 15, 1957, in the Idaho Falls Temple.
Edwin trapped in his early youth, and loved to fish and hunt. He loved a beautiful yard and garden. Every year he would experiment with a new and different type of plant or tree. He believed in letting nature take care of garden pests. Edwin also loved to camp and taught his children to love nature and the outdoors. Many summer trips were spent in Eight Mile Canyon, Bear Lake, Yellowstone Park and at beaches along the California Coast. He loved backpacking and ocean fishing too.
Survivors include his wife, Emily Aleen Anderson of Lava Hot Springs, Idaho, son, Doug (Darlene) Anderson of Idaho Falls, ID; daughter, Kathryn (Wallace) Hale of Mountain View, WY,; son, Howard (Ralene) Anderson of Pocatello, ID; daughter, Anita (Ken)Reid of Provo, UT; 19 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jens and Caroline Anderson, sister, Mary Armyon, brother, LeRoy Anderson, sister, LaVeda Anderson, brothers, James Anderson and Albert Anderson, his first wife, Freda Welker Anderson and his second wife, Rose Higgins Roberts Anderson.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, February 18, 2000, at 1 p.m. at the LDS Church in Lava Hot Springs. Burial will follow in the Lava Hot Springs Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Colonial Funeral HOme, 2005 S. 4th Ave. Pocatello, ID.
