Marie Katherine Readman was born to Luzzetta O'Brien and Jonstone Douglas Readman, in King Township, York County, Ontario. Her parents' forefathers were pioneer settlers of King, County Tenth Line, The Marsh, and were descendants of the Pilgrims who emigrated to America in 1620

Marie was a millner before her marriage, and operated her own business in Newmarket, Whitchurch Township, York County

In 1920, she married married Meredith Hill Proctor at Toronto, and they journeyed out West, eventually to Peace River Country in Northern Alberta where they settled in 1921. They pioneered there on a farm and two homesteads. They experienced 20 severe years of farming in an era known as The Hungry Thirties

Marie and Merd raised four children:
* Hilda Mary Luzzetta Proctor {m/d. Naismith}
* Ruth Katherine Proctor {m. Currie}
* Anah Aldath Proctor {m. Bufton}
* Evert William Hermas Proctor {m. Rigby-Jones}

During the War, Merd enlisted in the Calgary Highlanders and went overseas to England and Dieppe. The farm had been sold and Marie with the children lived in Calgary, Alberta. In 1943 when Merd returned to Canada, the family relocated to Vancouver, BC, and he and Marie spent their retirement years at "White Rock by the Sea". They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary there on February 20, 1970

Marie died at 79 years of age, and her beloved Merd who followed her 3 years later at the age of 90, is buried beside her
