Jewell County Republican October, 14 1943 Mrs Emma Jackson Emma Ida Byrd Jackson, daughter of Jesse and Mary Ann Byrd, was born April 7,1864 in Melrose, Iowa and departed this life October 10, 1943 at St Anthony hospital of Dodge City, Kansas, at the age of 79 years, 6 months, and 3 days. On May 18, 1880, she was united in marriage to Walter S Jackson, who preceded her in death April 8, 1910. In 1892 she moved with her family to Thomas county, Kansas, where she made her home. To this union, three children were born, one son W L Jackson, San Francisco, Calif, two daughters Mrs Effie Dugger of Menlo, Kansas, and Mrs Elsie Bartlett of Dodge City, Kansas. She also leave three sisters and two brothers, O C Byrd of Washington, Kansas, Perry Byrd of Greely, Colo, Mrs Nana Kingsbury of Burlington, Colo, Mrs Myrtle White of Colorado Springs, Colo, and Mrs Ella Canary of Belpre, Kansas, 12 grandchildren and 15 greatgrandchildren and other relatives as well as a host of friends. Mrs Jackson was baptized in the year of 1904 and was a member of the Christian Church. She was loved and cherished by all who knew her. She was always ready and willing to help in time of need. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Assembly of God church in Jewell with Rev L J Underwood in charge. Relatives and friends present from other places were W L Jackson, San Francisco, Calif, Mrs Elsie Bartlett, Dodge City, Kansas, Mr and Mrs Will Dugger, Menlo, Kansas, Kenneth Messburg, Menlo, Kansas, Roy Smith, Dodge City, Kansas, Mr and Mrs Ray Wade, Montezuma, Kansas, Mrs Ella Canady, Belpre, Kansas, Mrs Emma Steiger, Menlo Kansas, Mrs Ralph Kramer, Mrs Lester Ganby, Mr and Mrs O C Byrd, all of Washington, Kansas, Mrs and Mrs M Childers of Beloit, Kansas, and Mrs Edwin Richter of Rexford, Kansas. Interment in Wallace cemetery beside her husband.
