Hazel E. Pierce, 89, of Auburn formerly of Chatham, died at 11:55 p.m.. Monday, March 24, 2008, at Auburn Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Hazel was born Oct. 15, 1918, in Pawnee, the daughter of Richard and Mary (Fishburn) Lewis. She married Benjamin G. Pierce, who precedes her in death.
Hazel worked as a cook at Chatham Grade School and at DICKEY-john Corp. in Auburn. She also worked at St. John's Hospital in the laundry department and for Lloyd's Laundry, both in Springfield.
Hazel is survived by three sons; a daughter; sister, Suzanne Blankenship; nine grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband; parents; sisters, Alma Wright, Ruby Lewis and Dorothy Hanson; brother, Frank Lewis; grandson, Wes Allen; great-granddaughter, Ashley StHilaire; daughter-in-law, Sharon Pierce; and son-in-law, Butch Tuttle.
Burial in the Chatham Memorial Cemetery.
