George W. Estes lived in Sonoma for 56 years. He located in Sonoma in 1856 shortly after his marriage in Petaluma.

During their long residence in Sonoma, Mr. and Mrs. Estes were the parents of twelve children, eleven of whom with their mother survive the aged pioneer. In his younger days was among the hardy Argonauts who snatched California out of a wilderness and made it what it is today, one of the brightest stars in the galaxy of states of the Union.

He was a native of Batavia, New York, and was born on June 27, 1827.
