Train Kills N.M. Family.

ROSWELL, N.M., Jan 8 (AP)

A grade crossing crash which cost six lives brought tragic ending to an excursion of Dexter, N.M., fans to see their high school basketball team play in Roswell last night.

Struck by the engine of a Santa Fe passenger train as they started home, three members of the party were killed almost instantly. The others died a short time later in a Roswell hospital.

The dead, including five members of one family, are: Dick Shaw, 38, farmer and trustee of the Dexter school, 16 miles south of Roswell; Mrs. Vivian Shaw, 37, his wife; Joanne Shaw, 14, Dexter cheer leader; Betty Lou Shaw, 10 and a neighbor, Edna Aston, also 10, leaders of a grade school cheering section; Don Shaw, 8.

Their automobile was hit squarely in the middle and tossed 100 feet.

Three other children of the Shaw family, riding in another car, arrived at the scene shortly after their parents were killed.
