I Co. 6 Batt Lancaster Militia Rev. War.
Andrew Betts (1755-1823) and his wife Catherine Sherbondy Betts (1755-1820) Andrew Betts claimed a 200 acre land grant in this area in 1798 and in 1800 moved his wife and 10 children here from Fayette Co, PA. He was the first recorded settler in West Shenango Township. This millstone is from a grist mill owned and operated by him as early as 1810. He also owned a distillery and a sawmill. He gave the land for this cemetery and the original State Line Church, which was situated close to the lower end of the cemetery. Erected in 1851 at a cost of $1100.00 the church could hold 400 people and was destroyed by fire around 1885. Through the years, a multitude of descendants have evolved from this couple. Dedicated by his great-great-great grandson Ellis Royal Higgins 1999.
