In 1951, Nina Bice was drinking a cup of coffee at a cafe at 1021 S. Atlantic, East Los Angeles. Evan Charles Thomas parked his car nearby and took careful aim with his .22 caliber rifle. He fired at her and killed her. Before the Bice murder and afterwords, Thomas, an expert U.S. Air Force Marksman, used his sniper skills and crept around east Los Angeles County and took shots at women he spotted. Numerous women were shot at or injured, but Bice was the only one to die.
Thomas was executed in the gas chamber at San Quentin Prison on January 29, 1954.
