Mrs. T.J. Leavitt, who came to Nebraska in 1864 and settled near Daykin in 1883, passed away Sunday March 1, 1931, at a Fairbury hospital, following an operation. She was 69 years old. Funeral servces, largely attended, were held at the United Brethren church Tuesday afternoon, conducted by Rev. Mr. Treese, pastor, assisted by Rev. Mr. Turner of Alexandria and Rev. H.H. Williams. Music was by a mixed quartet, and burial was at the Alexandria Cemetery. The pallbearers were B.F. Henry, Gus Helvey, Charles Ward, Henry Marshman, Henry Frede, and August Marshman.
Among those from Daykin who attended the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Henry Marshman Sr., Mr. and Mrs. E.W. Rosener, Mr. and Mrs. B.F. Henry, Mrs. Milt Wessner, Mrs. Will Fox, Mrs. Sam Potts, Mrs H. Burnett, Mr. and Mrs. August Meeske.

CASSIE MARIA KINZIE was born in Elkhart, Indiana, Jan. 18th 1862, her parents being Mr. David Hall Kinzie and Mrs. Didamie Alcinda Pitts Kinzie. The family moved to Nebraska when she was about two years old, living first east of Dewitt, Nebraska. About the time of her marriage to Thomas Jefferson Leavitt, she was living near Daykin, Nebraska. She was married to Mr. Leavitt at the home of her parents on Jan. 4, 1883. The couple then moved near Helvey, Nebraska and farmed many years, until the health of her husband declined and they lived with their daughter Lillian and Alonzo Watson at Alexandria, Nebraska.
To this union were born ten children, Mrs. Lillian Watson, Mrs. Elsie Schmidt, Mrs. Eva Schmidt, Miss Ollie Leavitt, Arthur Leavitt, Clifford Leavitt, Willis Leavitt, Homer Leavitt. A daughter Mary died in infancy and a son Moses. There are also four sisters of Mrs. Leavitt who survive, Mrs. Rebecca Jane Chaney, Mrs. Mary Ann Workman, Mrs. Minta McDaniels, Mrs. Tillie Knigge, brothers, George, William and James Kinzie.
