Joseph Anson son of George Joseph Anson and Margaret Dinning of Wolverhampton, Staffordshire, England. They married there in 29 June 1833. Between 1851 and 1860
they immigrated to the United States. They are listed on 1860 Federal Census Geo. Anson Cono, Buchanan Co., Iowa.

Civil War service: Enlisted Co. E, 5th Iowa Infantry July 1, 1861. Re-enlisted Jan 5, 1864 and was transferred to Co., G, 5th Iowa Cavalry on Sept. 18, 1864. Discharged July 29, 1865 at Keokuk, Iowa because of chronic rheumatism.
After being discharged he married Amelia Betty Newell dt/o of John Newell and 1/w Harriet N. Judd Newell 20 Nov. 1865 probably Cono, Buchanan Co., Iowa.
They had the following children:
