Beryl Lorene WOODALL was born 15 January 1892 in Whitfield County, Georgia, and died 29 September 1982 in Dalton, Whitfield County, Georgia. She was buried next to her husband, Thad G. Babb, in their family plot in Mill Creek Cemetery, Whitfield County, Georgia.

She was the daughter of John H. WOODALL JR and Eliza Jane BOWMAN. She married Thad Gilbert BABB 1 January 1911, son of William Marion BABB and Susan Caldonia (Callie) LONER. Thad was born 12 October 1888 in Cobb County, Georgia, and died 19 March 1965 in Whitfield County, Georgia. He was buried 23 March 1965 in Mill Creek Cemetery, Whitfield County, Georgia.

Beryl was famed both for her cooking and for her flowers. Her fried chicken, chicken salad, fried okra, cakes, and deep-dish pies were legendary, and she kept an extensive flower garden next to her home from which she provided flowers almost weekly for the Dug Gap Baptist Church. Even into her 80's, she was still active in her garden and in her church.

She and Thad lost their first child, daughter Gwendolyn, at birth in January 1912. Gwendolyn is buried in their family plot at Mill Creek Cemetery.

They had four living children: Harold Thaddeus Babb, born in January 1913; James Carlton Babb (always called Carlton), born in 1914; Mary Frances Babb (later McAfee), born Sept. 26, 1915; and Sarah Alice Babb (later Farver), born March 16, 1921.

Harold, who died in June 1984, is buried with Thad and Beryl in the family plot at Mill Creek, as are Frances (died Aug. 16, 1998) and Roy McAfee (died Nov. 21, 2003).

PLEASE NOTE: Beryl's gravesite was originally recorded by Matt Henderson, to whom I am very grateful.
