Mrs. Ora Bell Bates Baxter, 88, longtime resident of Old State Road in the Hampshire Community, died Friday, July 30, 2010 at NHC Hillview.

A graveside service will be conducted at 3:00 P.M. Sunday at Baxter Cemetery with Rev. Earl Davis officiating. The family will visit with friends Saturday from 4:00 - 8:00 P.M. and Sunday from 12:00 – 2:00 P.M. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to Baxter Cemetery, c/o Mike Baxter, 3877 Old State Road, Hampshire, TN 38461. Notes of sympathy may be sent to the family at www.oakesandnichols.com.

The Perry County native was the daughter of the late Orville Bates and Melissa Hinson Bates. She was married to James Beasley Baxter who preceded her in death on February 25, 1985. Mrs. Baxter enjoyed cooking and adored her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was a member of Hampshire United Methodist Church.

Survivors include two sons, Mike (Brenda) Baxter and Randy (Paula) Baxter, both of Hampshire; two sisters, Mildred (William) Rodgers of Hampshire; Laverne Goodman of Hohenwald; two grandchildren, Christopher (Lisa) Baxter of Martin; Lauren Baxter (Brian) Maxwell of Hampshire; two great grandchildren, James Jacob "Jake" Baxter of Martin; Tyler Justin Maxwell of Hampshire; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, Helen Cotham and Lorene Cowan.

Pallbearers will be Gene Ray Baxter, David Baxter, Chris Baxter, Brian Maxwell, Larry Walton, and Lloyd Baxter. Honorary pallbearers will be men of Hampshire United Methodist Church.
