Sarah N. Mercier was born on January 28, 1834, to Benjamin Petit Mercier and Patience Turner Young Mercier.

Sarah N. Mercier married John Henry Woodall, Sr. and was the mother of John Henry Woodall, Jr. and Mary Jane (called Jane) Woodall. She and John, Sr. also had another daughter named Manda C. Woodall, who died at age 2.

A little before the start of the Civil War, John H. Woodall, Sr. died, and his young widow, Sarah, along with her two young children, John, Jr. and Jane, walked back with a mule to Whitfield County from the Armuchee Valley area, around Sublinga (between Dalton, LaFayette, and Rome, GA) where they had been living, so that she could be near her mother, Patience Turner Young Mercier.

Sarah's husband, John H. Woodall, Sr. is buried somewhere in the Armuchee area.
