Former Area Farmer Dies in New Jersey (Dated 7/6/1957)
Sciota - Eugene Werkheiser, 81, a retired farmer who spent most of his life as a farmer here, died Thursday at 2:15 p.m. at his home in Franklin, New Jersey. He had suffered a stroke nine days before.
Born in Sciota, he was a son of the late Peter and Katherine Slutter Werkheiser. He gave up farming here about 15 years ago and moved to Franklin where he worked as a dairyman until his retirement in 1952.
Surviving are his wife, Rebecca; six children by his first marriage: Mrs. Henry Cruse, Mrs. Ella Fikentscher and Mrs. Mildred Shutte, all of Mt. Pocono; Mrs. Adele Calkins of Canadensis; Mrs. Arthur Mutchler of East Stroudsburg; and Norman Werkheiser of Wichita Falls, TX; six grandchildren and several great granchildren.
Funeral services will be held Sunday at 2:00 p.m. at the Hamilton Union Church. Rev. Adan Bohner will officiate and interment will be in Mt. Zion Cemetery.
