In 1751 he married Margaretha Fogelman, also of German birth.
Michael, Margaretha and their oldest four children immigrated to America in 1760. The family settled in the Orange County area of North Carolina. In 1849, this area of Orange County was formed into the present day Alamance County.
Additional children were born into the family after their arrival in North Carolina.
A death date of 10 Oct 1810 was given by a 5th great grandchild of Michael Shoffner's. However, the original monument was inscribed in German. It is possible that an error was made when the additional monument was placed.
Additional Note: Michael Shoffner's will was signed and entered into record on 27 Sep 1810. Therefore the death date on the monument is incorrect.
