Son of Karolina Sabat and Joseph Maliawsky who emigrated to the United States from Poland and Belarus in the early 1900s. George was the 5th born of 8 children and the 3rd son. He was born in Shady Side, North Bergen Township in Hudson County. By 1930, the family had moved to nearby Fairview in Bergen County.
George enlisted in the US Army on 13 April 1943 for the duration of World War II. He served with the famed 82nd Airborne Division. He returned home in 1946 to 247 Halladay Street in Jersey City where he lived with his parents and single siblings. In 1966, he moved with his mother and brothers, Walter and Alex, to the Washington Square area of the city. In his later years, he lived in an apartment building owned and occupied by his brother John and family.
George worked as a printer for the J.C. Printing Company (until they relocated to Atlanta, Georgia). He never married. He is fondly remembered as a fun guy who followed the stock market and was always smiling. A young-at-heart type of person.
George is buried with John and John's wife Irene.
