He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War.
He married Shirley Spurgin in 1951. They lived and farmed in the Oldham area their entire married life.
He was a member of Oldham Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley of Oldham; six daughters, Sharon (Mike) Swanson of Arlington, Cathy (Lyle) Palmlund of DeSmet, Connie Schardin of Brookings, Sandy (Steve) Duffy of Oldham, Laurie (Shane) Brown of Oldham, Jody Janssen of Lake Preston; four sons, Denis (Cathy) Borah of Sioux Falls, Mike (Rachelle) Borah of Beresford, and Ryan (Trisha) Borah of Brookings; 19 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two brothers, Ken (Dorothy) Borah of Oldham, and Les (Susan) Borah of Dolton; and a sister, Leona (Walt) Nielson of Hartford.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and a toddler son.
