My beautiful angel Buddy..my best friend & constant companion who helped me thru tremendous grief after my mother passed, passed away due to Congestive Heart Failure. He came to me after being passed thru several homes so I had no history on him other than he was obviously neutered. I took him in to the Vet to have him updated on his shots, etc and his estimated age was set at about 8-9 yrs at that time. I had him a couple of months when he became sick with pancreatitis. Labwork and other diagnostic testing showed him to have Cushings Disease and enlarged heart. Buddy was being treated for his health problems and appeared to be responding until the morning of July 19th, 2008 when he collapsed at home. I took him to the Emergency Vet Hospital where it was determined that he had fluid in his lungs and his heart was very enlarged. He was admitted and treated there until Sunday night at which time I was able to bring him home so he could see his own Vet on Monday. On Monday we went in to his Vet and he was administered IV fluids and started on heart medications. It seemed like he was trying to respond to the medication as he once again would wag his tail when I spoke to him or walked towards him but he was still to weak to stand up on his legs. I was feeding him baby food and water at times from the bowl, at times thru a syringe. His Vet and I were in touch daily and she was going to see him again on Friday to see if he was truly responding to treatment. Wednesday afternoon about 1:20 he started to pant and have trouble breathing so I called the Vet to see if I could bring him in. I was told to come on at that time. My son and I took Buddy in, by the time we arrived Buddy's tongue was turning a purple blue color so the Vet advised we should proceed with euthanasia. I talked to Buddy and petted him the entire time reminding him how much he is loved and how much of a gift he was to me and my family. I told him that as long as my heart is beating, he will be alive. I told him not to be afraid, his suffering was done. I spent some time with him after he passed, trying to convince myself that I could leave without him, my constant companion who loved me no matter what!
Everyone who came in contact with Buddy was touched by him. I know I did the best thing for my boy but I am truly devastated at losing him. My home is filled from room to room with his toys, treats, beds, etc. My home seems so empty but my heart is so full of love and appreciation for Buddy for all that he is to me. His name says it all because he truly was "My Buddy". He was cremated and will be returned to me in the next couple of days where he will again have a special place in my home, surrounded with memories of love and happy days of Buddy kisses and belly rubs, which he loved so much. Buddy also loved to go "bye bye" in the car. He was a funny fellow with a personality that captured hearts everywhere. He was an older dog but he still had a lot of spunk right up until the Friday before he woke up sick on Saturday. Friday night he was running around the yard, in the house playing with his toys and rawhide treats. He was a character!

My heart is shattered, I wish I could have had more than 2 years and 7 months with him but in that short time, he touched my life so deeply it is hard to express it in words.

"I love and adore you Buddy West & I will see you again someday soon! Your paw prints are forever in my heart!"
