One memorable wedding in the Methodist Church a few years after it was built was the marriage of Miss Ruth Riddle and Mr. E. Clyburn Wilson in June 1918. The wedding was performed by Dr. M.M. Brabham. She wore a locket with pictures of herself and her bridegroom, the beautiful bride began her march down the aisle in a white beaded robe over a white satin wedding gown. The robe had also been worn for the bride’s graduation from Columbia College. The groom wore his World War I uniform. The wedding ring, purchased from Garibali and Bruns in Charlotte, would be carried on a pillow by a five-year-old Jimmy Wilson (Mullis).
