Mary Rose Hopcus Lemon fell asleep in death on Thursday, July 24, 2008, after a brief illness.

She was born October 21, 1928, in Bremond, Texas, the daughter of Bruno and Anastasia ("Stazy") Hopcus, the third of eleven children. Mary Rose attended St. Mary's Catholic School in Bremond, Texas. She became a registered nurse in 1952. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing in 1954, and a Master of Science degree in Psychiatric Nursing in 1973. She gave up nursing and embraced a simple lifestyle so that she could devote herself to serving God with her whole heart, soul, mind and strength. After being baptized as one of Jehovah's Witnesses, she became a full-time ‘pioneer,' and zealously and faithfully proclaimed the Bible's message of hope for decades. Over the years she had the joy and privilege of aiding many to come to know and serve Jehovah. She was loved and respected by all those who knew her and will be greatly missed.

She is survived by her children, Peggy, Robert, Mary Joan, and Joseph, seven of her siblings, Florence, Julian, Genevieve, Bernice, Norbert, Barbara, and Helen, as well as in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Joe, and her sisters Christine and Margie.

The family wishes to thank the doctors, nurses, and staff of M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, especially Dr. John Stroehlein, Dr. Kavita Patel, and Dr. Nada Fadul for the extraordinary care that they provided to our Mother. In addition, the family wishes to thank the doctors, nurses, and staff of Houston Hospice, especially Dr. Hanh Trinh, for their kindness, warmth, and compassion.

A Memorial Service will be held in Houston, Texas, on Sunday evening, August 3, 2008, at 5:30 P.M. at The Daniel Ortiz Middle School Auditorium located at 6767 Telephone Road, 77061. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in memory of Mary Hopcus Lemon to The Watchtower Bible and Tract Society of Pennyslvania, 100 Watchtower Drive, Patterson, New York 12563-9204, M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, P.
