Thomas Doan was the son of Joseph(6), John(5), Joseph(4), Daniel(3), Daniel(2), Deacon John Doane(1). Born July 19, 1781, Cane Creek, Chatham Co, NC. Died Aug 25, 1851 (possibly 1857), age at death 70 yrs 1 mo 6 d, German Twp, Bartholomew Co, IN. Md. Nov. 1802, Martha Hobson. After being disowned for marrying out of unity, Thomas and Martha, with their relatives, migrated to the slave-free territory of OH where all their children were born. In 1821, a Methodist Episcopal Church was organized on Sugar Creek, Blue River Twp, with the names of Martha and Thomas Doan appearing on the membership list. Mr. Doan became a minister of the Methodist Church and was a noted "Pioneer Circuit Riding Minister" in central and southern Indiana. 4 children. Taken from Doane Family Assn. book.
