Oddis J. Baker
Retired K-25 Instrument Engineering Dept. head Oddis J. Baker, 76, of Clinton, died Friday, Dec. 6, 2002, at his home, surrounded by his family.
Born April 24, 1926, in Corbin, Ky., he was the son of Willie J. and Edith Sasser Baker, who are deceased.
He was a graduate of the University of Kentucky.
Mr. Baker was a member of Clinton First Baptist Church and a United States Navy veteran of World War II.
He retired from Martin Marietta Energy Systems in 1989 as head of the instrument engineering department at the Oak Ridge K-25 site, with 37 years' service.
Mr. Baker is survived by his wife of 57 years, Vivian Vernice Stanifer Baker;
sons, William A. Baker and his wife, Gail, and
Allen W. Baker and his wife, Ann, all of Knoxville, and
Phillip L. Baker and his wife, Gloria, of Clinton;
sister, Lois Nolan & her husband, Charles,, of Scottsburg, IN;
brother, Michael Baker & his wife, Anne, of Asheville, NC;
sister-in-law, Alberta Thompson of Federal Way, WA;
brother-in-law, Paul Stanifer & his wife, Alberta, of Hamilton, Ohio;
8 grandchildren, Stephanie, Clint, Sam, Patrick, Amanda, Graham, Robert and Cooper;
3 great-grandchildren, Virginia Rose, Duncan and Max;
and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by another brother, Charles Baker.
The funeral was held at 4 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 7, in the chapel of Holley-Gamble Funeral Home in Clinton with the Rev. Paul Frick officiating.
A graveside service was held at 4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 8, at Woodhaven Memory Gardens in Claxton.
